Martin Harley

Martin Harley is a supremely talented acoustic roots and blues guitarist, singer and songwriter with a burgeoning global reputation.

Live at Southern Ground, his eagerly anticipated new album, was recorded in Nashville in collaboration with Daniel Kimbro (Jerry Douglas, Larkin Poe) on upright bass.

As Martin explains “I wanted to make something representative of where I’m at musically at the moment with an album that reflects on the last year solo and duo touring. Daniel and I met in Knoxville through a mutual friend… he handed me his card which read… ‘alright guitar player… good upright bass player’ … an understatement on both parts!”

A mixture of retrospective solo and duo arrangements recorded during an afternoon at the esteemed Southern Ground studio in Nashville, Live at Southern Ground features Martin on Weissenborn… a traditional Hawaiian acoustic guitar played across the lap, resonators and archtops, and of course Daniel Kimbro on upright bass.

“It’s a simple, honest and direct album with no overdubs in a warm sounding room with some great microphones and two new friends playing a few songs over a cold beer or two” says Martin. “There’s a great feeling when you click with someone. It frees you up to experiment with the arrangement and the dynamic of a song.”

Live at Southern Ground follows on from Martin’s five previously acclaimed albums, most recently Mojo Fix in 2012. Along with many years of international touring and countless festivals Martin has built a strong international fan-base across the globe.

Renowned for his prowess as a slide guitarist, Martin is almost unique in the UK in his playing lap slide. During year-round worldwide touring he’s absorbed a plethora of diverse influences, honing his craft into the classic songwriting style he possesses today.

In the US, Martin has headlined Music City Roots in Nashville and toured coast to coast with ZZ Ward, Delta Rae and opened for Iron and Wine, Bruce Hornsby, Five for Fighting, World Party, Beth Hart, Joe Bonamassa amongst many others.

Martin will be touring solo across the UK during November and December and plans for a duo tour with Daniel are already in the pipeline for March 2016.

Danny Brooks

Danny Brooks has long been referred to as ‘The Real Deal’ and after years of honing his writing and performing skills in Canada, picking up nominations and awards along the way, Brooks is at home in the Texas music scene and traveling throughout the USA. Mixing Southern Soul, Americana, Blues and Gospel, he is recognized as a prolific writer and dynamic live performer, and is constantly on the road. Making Llano Texas his home (just west of Austin), ‘Texassippi Soul Man’  Danny Brooks & Lil Miss Debi released their second ‘Texas’ studio recording ‘This World Is Not Your Friend’, in January of 2015. The upcoming CD “Get Your Joy On”  will be much like the previous CD with a ‘stripped down’ approach.  Brooks’ music features the duo he has with his wife Lil Miss Debi who sings and plays cajon/percussion while he plays assorted guitars/slide/cigar-box/stomp-board and harp-rack.

Brooks has worked with Legendary producers Jim Dickinson on ‘Its A Southern Thing’ which received high praise from Cub Coda (Smokin’ In The Boy Room/All Music Guide), Johnny Sandlin, (Capricorn Records Producer) on ‘No Easy Way Out’, that featured the legendary Muscle Shoals musicians David Hood, Spooner Oldham, Bonnie Bramlett. Frazer Mohawk (Elektra) and bassist Tim Drummond (Bob Dylan/Neil Young/James Brown) referred to Brooks as the real deal on NorthernBlues recording ‘Saved! The NorthernBlues Gospel Allstars’. On the first two Soulsville recordings, Brooks credits Richard Bell, (Janice Joplin/The Band/Colin Linden) who produced and played keyboards as preparing him for the world stage.  It should be noted that Louis X. Erlanger (Mink DeVille guitartist) produced “Texassippi Soul Man”.

‘Texassippi Soul Man’ Danny Brooks & Lil Miss Debi have been touring constantly, promoting and building their reputation throughout North America.  As a duo, they make a good racket on assorted guitars/stomp-board/harp-rack/cajon/percussion and singing with all their might, with an Elite 3 way Yorkville PA System.   As situations dictate, they perform with both Canadian and American bands.  Info on the Canadian and American bands is available on the website. Their duo live show has drawn comparisons to White Stripes/Black Keys/Keb Mo/Allman Bros. and North Mississippi Allstars.

Crucial Music in Studio City California is representing 25 of Brooks’ songs to film/tv/commercials and has successfully placed ‘You’ll Find A Way’, a soul ballad from Rock This House aired on ABC’s TV Show The Fosters, as well as “Caught a Fire” from “Texassippi Soul Man” on ABC’s New Girl.

“He’s that special musical jewel that we’ve never really had in Canada … he’s our Solomon Burke, Otis Redding, Taj Mahal and Ralph Stanley rolled into one performer”. Chris Darton/Maple Blues Magazine

“Listening to Danny Brooks is like driving out of Memphis, TN on a sunny Saturday morning into the Mississippi Delta listening to WDIA. It’s one of those things where time stands still. A dash of Eddie Hinton, Solomon Burke, Rev. James Cleveland and Howlin’ Wolf are all ingredients in Danny‘s soulful musical stew’” states Greg Martin of the Kentucky Headhunters.

“Son for a white boy, you sho’ nuff got a sun tan on the inside”  Brownie McGhee

Maybe Greg Quill, noted musician and arts writer for the Toronto Star, sums it up the best: ‘This is Roots music of great distinction.’
